SEQ Catchments Member’s Association Inc formed

SEQ Catchments Members Association Inc (SEQCMA) was formed in 2009 through amalgamation of SEQ Western Catchments Group (SEQWCG) and Natural Resource Management SEQ (NRMSEQ).

The Members Association continues the legacy left by both SEQWCG and NRMSEQ of bringing together people from all sectors of the community to a common purpose - “a sustainable future for our community”.

SEQCMA’s aims and objects include:-

  • Provide advice to SEQ Catchments on management planning, content and prioritisation of activity and funding of projects in the region to meet plan outcomes
  • Provide policy advice on strategic natural resources management issues through advisory committees to SEQC from a Community perspective
  • Harness local Community involvement and support for implementation of natural resource management initiatives and activities
  • Align SEQC’s activities and Community groups’ aspirations.
  • Nominate Members to the SEQC Board.
  • Members of the Members Association are organisations with an interest in natural resource management who can assist the Association to achieve its aims.

Membership of SEQCMA is organised into the following sectors:-

  • Integrated Catchment Management (ICM) and Landcare
  • Local Government
  • Coastal and Marine
  • Environment
  • Recreation, Sport and Tourism
  • Research and Education
  • Rural Industry
  • Traditional Owners
  • Urban Industry

A Board is selected on a regular basis from the membership with representatives from each sector. This Board acts as the Members Association throughout the year. Meetings of the Board are expected to be held quarterly. Members in each sector may get together to discuss matters of interest or issues they wish SEQC or SEQCMA to deal with.

SEQ Catchments CEO, Simon Warner, said: “The establishment of the Members Association Inc has taken some time, but now provides one integrated voice for the community about environmental and NRM issues.

Gordon French, Chairman of SEQCMA, acknowledged all the Members of both SEQWCG and NRMSEQ for the support and their service to the community to date. He also said that the formation of SEQCMA was a milestone and testament to the goodwill of the Members of both groups.
