The South East Queensland region is experiencing some of the fastest urban growth in Australia, and by 2031, the population is expected to reach around four million people — an increase of more than one million people over two decades.
According to research carried out on behalf of SEQ Catchments, the social and economic costs of not maintaining our natural assets is high. If we ‘do nothing more’ than what is currently being done then South East Queensland’s natural environment will continue to decline, threatening our region’s rich biodiversity, the outdoor lifestyle that is the envy of the world and have a serious economic impact.
