The end of 2011 welcomed another successful graduation for a group of young men and women participating in a National Green Job Crops program, who through the mobilisation of several partners were offered hands on training in conservation and land management whilst supporting a local Landcare group.

SEQ Catchments was a key player in moblising this partnership project which ran between June-December 2011 between Beechmont Landcare, Scenic Rim Regional Council, and Seqwater, to achieve on ground action that supports the local Beechmont landcare initiatives whilst delivering upon regional Natural Resource Management (NRM) targets.

SEQ Catchments Community Partnership Manager for the Gold Coast Region, Linda Durham, was very pleased with the work carried out.

“This has been a great partnership project, which not only equips these young adults, some of whom are long term unemployed, with valuable land management skills and knowledge about their natural environment, but also supports the local Beechmont Landcare initiative,’’ she said.

‘‘This includes activities, such as natural bush regeneration, weed control and bush revegetation, track construction, signage and maintenance, that have contributed greatly towards achieving the overall regional targets for the South East Queensland Natural Resource Management Plan,”

Job Futures SEQ Nation Green Corps program is aimed at disadvantaged youth aged between 17-24 over a 26 week period, who upon completion are awarded with a Certificate 2 qualification in Conservation and Land Management.
