The majority of the natural resources that are the focus of targets in the SEQ NRM Plan are on private land. Active support of land managers and recognition of their investment in time and resources to protect and restore these natural assets is therefore critical for the successful achievement of targets. The development of relationships with landowners is an essential precursor to any on ground work project activities. This relationship building forms the core of the Partnerships and Community Capacity program.

It is also important to recognise the significant contribution (in both a positive and negative sense) that publicly owned land makes to the achievement of NRM targets. SEQ Catchments works closely with a wide range of public landowners like Energex, Powerlink, SEQ Water, Councils and State Agencies on projects aimed at protecting and restoring these publically owned lands.

SEQ Catchments utilises a range of methodologies to build and maintain these relationships, such as; working with existing members of community groups; the provision of a range of adult education programs and workshops focused on sustainable land management and better protection of natural resources; and individual and sub catchment focused Property Management Planning (PMP).

This investment is aimed at improving the knowledge and aspirations of landholders to implement best management practices on their properties – be they privately or publically owned.
