What we do

We do this in a number of ways:
- by working with the Australian, Queensland and Local Governments as well as the corporate sector to influence policy, align planning with the SEQ NRM Plan, and secure funding for on-ground environmental projects;
- by encouraging and assisting the development of partnerships between the community, the corporate sector and governments at all levels to deliver NRM outcomes;
- by mobilising and involving community groups and individual landholders to identify, develop and carry out projects at the grassroots local level; and
- by providing technical advice in the areas of data collection, mapping, vegetation management, soil conservation, water quality and property management planning to the community and our project partners.
Our activities are directed by the SEQ Catchments’ Strategic Investment Plan (SIP), which defines intermediate targets that we intend to achieve with our project partners over a five year period between 2009 and 2014. These targets represent our five yearly contribution to achieving the longer term targets in the SEQ NRM Plan 2009-2031, which defines the minimum outcomes that the region must achieve to maintain and enhance the ability of our community, environment and economy to prosper.
SEQ Catchments undertook extensive public consultation over a four year period to ensure widespread community support for the SEQ NRM Plan and SIP targets.
SEQ Catchments also prides its ability to respond to urgent community needs, while also ensuring that we continue to deliver against the SEQ NRM Plan and SIP targets. We realigned our work program to help the community repair environmental damage following the 2011 storms and floods and the 2009 Moreton Bay oil spill disaster.
